Whisky cask stave Orkney & Islay
Oak from Highland Park, Ardbeg and others, retired after decades holding spirit. It still smells of the distillery when it hits the tool, which never stops being a thrill.
The story
I now have a number of whisky barrel staves from Scotland, England and the USA. Some are bought ans a number are gifted to me from the distillery directly as in the case of White Peak Distillery and Jura Distillery.
On the lathe
The trick is to try to retail some of the char from the inside of the barrel which takes some practice. The smell in the workshop when turning is a mix of wood and whisky!! What more could you want
